Introduction
The program begins in Stockholm where the participants live together
during the first few days, thereby giving them the chance to get
to know each other and to get their first glimpse of Swedish life
and culture. There is also a tour of Stockholm and a program briefing.
Orientation
This part of the
program (approximately two weeks) is an orientation about Sweden
and its history, political. legal, educational and social services
systems, trade unionism etc. Special emphasis is placed upon Swedish
social work and the Swedish way of life.
During this part of the program the participants live with host
families and attend a combination of seminars, study visits, cultural
events and discussion covering many topics so as to enhance their
understanding of Swedish culture. They also partake in a cultural
exchange with their fellow participants.
Fieldwork experience
The third part of the program (approximately three weeks) is devoted
to introducing the particular field of social work/social services
selected by the participants. We can offer a wide variety of field
placements in different parts of Sweden.
The fact that the participants are not familiar with the Swedish
language means that the field experience will be more like observation
and orientation, rather than working directly with clients.
Our aim is to offer an experience that provides a broad and independent
view of the field of the participant's choice.

Evaluation, reunion and farewell
The fourth part of the program (approximately three days) is used
for evaluation, the sharing experiences and bringing the program
to an end including a farewell party. For this the participants
will again be housed as a group in Stockholm.
Living conditions
Living with host families is an essential part of the program.
It is a good way of learning about family life in the country.
Participant usually stays for 2 weeks in each family. The host
families provide:
· a private bedroom;
· breakfast, and evening meal on weekdays and
all meal on weekends.
CIF-Sweden provide lunch on weekdays.
During the introduction and evaluation
the participants will stay together and share rooms.
Economy
· There
is no registration fee.
· The participant must pay his or her own way
to and from Sweden.
· The participant must have full travel insurance
coverage including third party liability.
· CIF will not be responsible for living expenses
not related to participation in the program.
This means that the participant will need money for his or her
own expenses such as gifts,
personal travel etc., and for all expenses before and after the
program.
· CIF-Sweden provide for public transportation
related to the program.
How is CIF-Sweden financed?
CIF-Sweden is managed and administered by former CIF/CIP-participants and friends of CIF.
This voluntary work, combined with the contributions of host families and agencies, is critical
to CIF's success. However some funding is provided by:
· foundations;
· membership fees from CIF members in Sweden.
